-
I recorded my record at home or at another studio. Can you mix it?Yes! Contact us so we can discuss the next steps. If you’re planning to record at home, but would like to utilize our other services, such as, mixing and mastering, we’d be happy to talk with you about how best to prepare your project for the next steps.
-
How many revisions can I make during mixing or mastering (Online)?Mixes include 3 rounds of revisions. Masters include 2 rounds of revisions. We encourage you to be as concise and specific in your original direction and revision feedback as possible. Revisions beyond these will require adjustment to billing.
-
Can you print mixes to analog tape?Absolutely and recommend it! Nothing sounds like tape; it gives a new sonic character to any mix. It can add tape saturation, tape compression, and emphasized low frequencies. We have a 1976 MCI JH-116 2" 24 track, (2) MCI JH-110 1/4"- one provides dbx noise suppression, a 1949 AMPEX 300 1/2" 4 track with custom amplifiers hand wired from Wizard Electronics in Atlanta during the 70s--Super High Output!, Tascam 32B 1/4" 4track. These machines have seen many amazing recordings.
-
What is MFiT [Mastered For iTunes]?Mastered for iTunes allows your listeners hear your music as close to the way it sounds in the Mastering Studio before export, eliminating clipping and inter-sample peaks (distortion). This means listeners will be able to stream and download your songs at the absolute highest quality possible on iTunes. To be considered for MFiT your mixes must be ≥44.1 kHz/24 bit. Do not upsample.
-
Do you track bands live or multi-track?Both! We can record an entire band performance as well as multi-track each instrument separately. In preliminary planning, we will discuss what makes the most sense for your project, and allows us to produce the best recordings possible.
-
I am a singer/songwriter looking to produce a record with multi-instrumentalists. Can you help?We work with singer/songwriters often. We frequently assist with selecting instrumentalists. We work with highly skilled musicians that can add drums, bass, guitar, strings, horns, synth, and/or piano to your music.
-
How long is a session? Most recording session blocks are scheduled for eight to 10 hours and we have a two-hour minimum. Each session starts at a time pre-determined, load-in/out, set-up and break-down are on us. Often we like to have a set-up in the afternoon, this lets everyone get comfortable and ready to start work the next day. Although a session may be scheduled for eight hours, we may go beyond the allotted time if the project is in a productive groove and the schedule allows. Helping to make the most of your time, skills and budget is our goal.
-
How much time should I book for recording my album?Every project varies, but a good rule of thumb is to book one day per song for a full-length LP for a typical indie-rock band (guitar/bass/drums/etc). A well-rehearsed, four-piece band recording a 10-song full-length record can usually get basic tracks recorded in 3-5 days and overdubs recorded in 1-2 days. Projects with more instrumentation and complexity will take longer and projects with less instrumentation and complexity may take less time.
-
Can I rent out the studio space at 460 sound studios?Yes. We rent our space out as rehearsal/practice, presentation, photo/video or any approved need
-

However, after a project is completed, we cannot guarantee onsite storage, unless we know there will be an ongoing need for them.
-
How do I book a project at 460 sound studio?Contact us to discuss your expectations and goals. We will discuss your creative goals, instrumentation, individual roles, number of songs, and distribution plans as well as scheduling and rates. After we’ve talked and you’re ready to move forward, we’ll plan a timeline. A project is considered confirmed only when we’ve received your deposit. If we haven’t received a deposit, then our time is not guaranteed. We typically plan a pre-production chat or meeting in the week or two before production starts to revisit plans, and goals..
-
Do you require a deposit and when do we pay it?Once we’ve planned a timeline for your project, we’ll send you an invoice. Deposits are required for recording and mixing services. Payment for online mastering and audio restoration services is due in full before work begins. When a deposit is due, we’ll hold your time in our production schedule for two weeks. The deposit is required to confirm your project. If we do not receive the deposit by week two from the invoice date, we’ll release the time for others to book and we can find new dates that work for you.
-
When do we pay the balance? For online mixing, mastering, and audio restoration services, payment is due in full before work begins. For in-house recording services, the balance is due after approval of final mix. If we do not receive the balance at that time, we reserve the right to hold files. Final uncompressed files will be provided after the balance has been paid in full.
-
What forms of payments do you accept? We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, checks, and cash. Credit/debit card and check payments can be made online by clicking the “Pay Now” button on your invoice email. Please confirm with us before sending payment via ApplePay, Venmo, CashApp or PayPal. You are responsible for any fees incurred from our bank or processor for declined payments.
-
What if I need to reschedule a recording session or cancel a project? When we schedule your booking we have committed our resources to your project. If you’re scheduled for recording and you encounter an unexpected conflict, we will work with you to reschedule your sessions, but please understand that studio and production schedules stay pretty full so flexibility may be necessary. Immediate rescheduling may not be possible. Individual session musicians, gear rental providers, and others we have arranged may have their own policies about rescheduling. All payments are non-refundable once paid. If sessions or projects are cancelled, you will receive a company credit in the amount of the payments received less any studio payments already made for deposits or to compensate session musicians, hire gear, or pay for studio space rental. Credits can only be applied to the services for which they were originally paid. Any credits not re-scheduled for use within ninety days of the original invoice date will be forfeited.
